Miss Clara Knight's Curious Collections
Seashore Specimens (ix) 'Father and I recently visited distant relatives: the Knight's and their young son, William. Will is a sweet child who took great delight in searching for treasures as we walked along the seashore'
This is an original one-off assemblage created inside a highly decorative vintage wooden box. The intricate marquetry patterns worked into the box are composed of hundreds of tiny slivers of bone and wood.
When Cordelia bought this delightful little box for William, he asked Clara to help him assemble his collection as she would do for her own.
Clara has placed a photograph of William inside the lid, (he is looking very solemn because he had to be very well-behaved at the photographer’s studio), as well as a real ammonite and part of his lucky red marble, (it came to grief during a particularly rumbustious game of marbles with his friend, Jack).
William was especially pleased with the fine double cockle shell that he had found. Clara set it for him in pride of place in the base of the box.
Please note this is a one off piece of artwork and cannot be re-created. It is also not suitable for children.
Size when box is fully open: H17cm, W22cm and D3cm.
