The Leicester Society of Artists Annual Exhibition will be held at Gallery 11, Leicester Museum and Art Gallery from 14th February 2026 until 11th April 2026. This show will be their 140th annual exhibition: LSA is one of the longest existing Art Societies in the county, with a history stretching back to 1881. I will be showing three works including:
'Mlle Chloe Dubois: an intrepid botanist of great repute', (see below), who is one of the characters I created for my solo show in 2024. The work above is housed in an antique museum cabinet with a printers tray which displays a selection of Mlle Dubois' discoveries.
I used many different materials to create these including silk, beads, plastics, porcelain, handmade paper as well as natural items and small antique curiosities.
Mlle Chloe Dubois
'This is a relatively small group of specimens from the vast and fascinating collection of plants and flora gathered together by Mlle Chloe Dubois, (1855-1933). Very little is known of her background, but throughout her life she steadfastly searched high and low for new and exciting discoveries in the field of botany. A singularly intrepid botanist of great repute, she travelled the globe and discovered hundreds of new species. Mlle Dubois had friends and acquaintances in many countries, which proved invaluable to her research. They would often send information as to the whereabouts of strange or unusual plants and sometimes small mysterious packages would arrive through the post for her containing flowers, roots, petals, leaves or seeds. It also meant that she could stay in a variety of locations for as long as she wished. She stayed as a guest of the Dalai Lama for over a year before crossing the Himalaya's to India to see a friend who had heard rumours of a new variety of jasmine.'
